"Archifiction", somme relations between visual arts and fiction

220 pages

ABSTRACT
Fictional narrative forms, such as literature and cinema, have been widely analyzed and written about ; however, the study of fiction in the visual arts is practically non-existent. In my own work, I have explored relationships between architecture and fiction in a series of exhibitions which spanned the years between 1993 and 2001. These exhibitions are part of a larger oeuvre which follow five paradigms : in situ, readymade, abstract painting and « relationship practices ». Fiction in the visual arts can be termed an « transitive mix », as opposed to literary fiction, which has been called a « intransitive patchwork » (Genette 1991). The writer borrows from reality in order to create fiction, while the artist’s aim is to transform fiction into reality.
